VNL Hood Air Intake Vent Light Kit
VNL Gen 2 & Gen 3 Hood Air Intake Vent Light Kit (162 LEDs)
The Boogey Lights® hood Air Intake Vent light kit for the Volvo VNL series HDT is designed to light up the air intake vents on both the drivers and passengers side producing a nice glow effect coming from inside the hood. Available in both single color and multi-color (RGB) versions these LED light strips mount to the inside of the air intake vent area on each side of the hood with a total of 162 Hi-Intensity LEDs. The LED strips for each side of the hood are built with two surface mounted Hi-Intensity LED strips which form a "V" and attach to a power lead. The longer side of the 'V' (36" long) mounts to the inside of the hood just above the vent, the other side of the 'V" (18" long) mounts below the vent. Together, the two strips that form the 'V' have 81 Hi-Intensity LED lights that flood the inside of the air intake vent with light. Each strip has a 25' power lead to connect to a 12v power source, switch or Boogey Lights® RGB controller. When paired with our VNL GEN2/GEN3 Under-Cab Accent Light Kit, this Air Intake Light kit creates a nice lighting effect for the entire tractor. If purchasing the RGB multi-color version, the power lead will need to connect to a Boogey Lights® controller which is sold-separately. Will fit Volvo VNL Gen 2 (2004-2018) and Gen 3 (2019-2020) air intake hoods.
DOT COMPLIANCE: The AMBER and RED single color LED strips are DOT COMPLIANT. They conform to applicable provisions of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 requirements.
Installation Info, Where To Mount
Total installation time is about one hour. You'll need to remove the air intake vent covers on each side of the hood. They are affixed to the hood with three small screws and adheasive tape which can be difficult to remove. Care must be taken so you don't break the plastic vent cover with using too much force. When reassembling you'll want to either have some double sided tape available to mount the vents back in place or use a silicon sealant. Once you have the vent covers removed, you'll need to drill a 3/8" hole near the bottom of the hood vent area such that the power lead will be able to be routed back to the power source. Each set of lights have a long and short LED strip connected to a power lead. The long side mounts above the air intake vent opening. The short side mounts below the air intake vent opening. The power lead cable exits the hood through the hole you drilled. Before mounting the led strips, the surface must first be cleaned with alcohol and the prepped with the include 3M® promoter. Simply remove the red protective covering on the back of each LED strip and press firmly against the inside of the hood. Repeat the process for each strip on each side of the truck. The power lead will need to be routed back to your power source and wire tied along the way.
IMPORTANT WARRANTY INFORMATION
Boogey Lights Low Profile Hi-Intensity Surface Mounted LED light strips are used in a number of Boogey Lights products for a variety of vehicle applications (including this product). Note on Commercial Applications: These low-profile surface mounted LED strips are not built to withstand significant flexing or lateral movement of the surface the strip is mounted to. Some examples include on semi-truck trailers as well as tow trucks where there is significant movement, bending or flexing of the surface to which the strip is mounted. Also, the strip can not mounted in such a way as they span multiple mounting surfaces. Mounting them this way will virtually guarantee the strip will fail sooner rather than later. These strips must be mounted to one single continuous smooth, clean, flat surface and in an area that is protected from corrosive chemicals. Commercial vehicles that frequently travel roads treated with corrosive chemicals often used for melting snow and ice can impact the durability of these LED strips if the strips are mounted in an area that is exposed to these chemicals. Hi-Intensity Strips that fail in these operating environments ARE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. For these types of operating environments we strongly recommend (and warranty) our HEAVY DUTY LED strips.

Note on color selection: Amber (and Red if facing toward the rear) are the only colors that can be used while driving. If purchasing the RGB multi-color version, you can adjust the color displayed using the remote or your Bluetooth phone. We've found that white is very helpful when parked for working around the truck.
Why does the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Matter? LED lights are mounted to a Printed Circuit Board (or PCB for short). The color of that PCB makes a difference in how the finished installation looks in the daylight. Our LED light strips come in two versions to match the surface the strip will be attached to. If you have a light colored truck you will probably want to order the WHITE PCB light strip. If you have a dark colored truck, you will probably want to order the BLACK PCB light strip.
