LED ADD-ON Strips with Power Leads

Hi-Performance ADD-ON LED light strip with heat shrink power lead.   Offered in both single color and multi-color. This is an ADD-ON LED strip based on our LOW PROFILE LED strip technology.  Same technology, same exact LEDs - just easier to order for some since it's sold by the foot. It is intended to be used with any number of Boogey Lights® lighting kits including RVs (Under-Glow or Awning Kit), GOLF CARTS, TRUCKS  and MARINE lighting kits in situations where you want to add more lights than what the base kit includes. The Multi-Color (RGB, RGBW, RGBA, RGBWW) version of these ADD-ON LED strips are COMMON CATHODE LED strips. They will NOT work without a positively switched BOOGEY LIGHTS® LED controller. They require the controller to operate.

FAQS | Frequently Asked Questions

While we encourage you to read all of the information presented on this product page (including the information on the navigation tabs), below are some of the most frequently asked questions we get about this product. In all cases, the answers to these FAQs will refer you to other sections of this product page for more details on the topic.

What is the difference between this ADD-ON LED Strip and your LOW PROFILE LED STRIPS?

This ADD-ON LOW PROFILE LED strip is based on our LOW PROFILE LED strip technology. Same technology, same exact LEDs, same exact PCB structure - just easier to order for some since it's sold by the foot. These ADD-ON strips are intended to be used with any number of Boogey Lights® lighting kits in situations where you want to add more lights than what the base kit includes.

Do I need an LED Controller to operate?

Depends on the LED color you're purchasing. SINGLE COLOR LEDS do not require an LED controller. They only require a means by which to turn them on/off (or dim if that's what you want to do.) While we offer some single color led switching options, just about any 12vdc LED capable switch will work; available online or at most hardware stores. Just have to make sure the switch is rated to handle the amperage you intend on pulling through it. If you're purchasing any of our MULTI-COLOR RGB/RGBx LEDs, you absolutely need an LED Controller and it must be a positively switched LED controller (most after market LED Controllers are negatively switched and will not work). If you scroll down into this product page and read the section titled 'MULTI-COLOR REQUIRES AN LED CONTROLLER' you'll find a detailed discussion about this issue along with a link to the LED Controller we recommend for use with any of our RGB/RGBx Low Profile LED strips.

Will the Multi-Color RGB/RGBx LED Strip version work with other brands of LED Controllers?

The short answer is almost certainly not. More importantly, we do not provide technical support on installations that use other manufacturer's components with Boogey Lights® products. All Boogey Lights® RGB/RGBx LED strips are COMMON CATHODE strips with the controller technology being POSITIVELY SWITCHED. This means that Boogey Lights® LED strips share a common ground. The controller switches on/off the positive (hot) side of the circuit similar to how every motorized vehicle in North America is wired. If you scroll down and read the section titled 'WILL THESE WORK WITH OTHER LED CONTROLLERS?' you'll find a detailed discussion on this very issue.

I see the maximum length of one Low Profile LED strip is 16 feet. Can I daisy chain one strip to another to go longer distances?

The maximum length of a single LED strip is 16' (300 LEDs). They cannot be daisy chained together as you run the risk of fire and/or damaging the LED strips permanently. The laws of electricity won't allow it to go longer with today's commercially available technology using 12vdc power and super bright 5050 led chips. If your application requires longer than 16' (e.g. 20'), you have two options. One is to simply center the 16' LED strip in that 20' space. Boogey Lights are already very bright so for most folks, having enough light is never a concern. This is what most people do. That said, some prefer to have full coverage of the entire 20' area. In that case it's possible to cover that entire 20' span using two LED strips. In the case of a 20' span you can order two - 10' LED strips. Then, the two LED strips (totaling 20') are installed such that the two LED strips butt together; end to end, which gives the illusion of a single 20' long LED strip.

Can I power these using my 120vac outlet?

Boogey Lights® LED strips are native 12vdc devices to be compatible with any motor vehicle manufactured for use in North America. Whenever possible we strongly recommend using 12vdc power. Converting from 120vac to 12vdc power is unnecessary for most lighting applications that are added to vehicles which are also native 12vdc vehicles. Doing so adds cost and an additional point of failure. That said, if you have an application where 12vdc power isn't available (or convenient) you can purchase a 120vac to 12vdc power converter. You can also find these online. They are readily available. Just make sure to use the correct amperage for your lighting application. Do not overload the power converter with more LEDs than what it is rated for.

What is the difference between RGB, RGBW, RGBW65 and RGBA?

All of these are Multi-Color LEDs. RGB has 3 diodes. The rest have 4 diodes. RGB stands for RED, GREEN, BLUE. Each LED chip on the strip contains three diodes: One Red. One Green. One Blue. When paired with an LED controller, the mixing of those three primary colors can create up to 16 million different color combinations. For example, equal parts RED + GREEN + BLUE = WHITE (bright white, 6000 Kelvin temp). RGB leds are the most common leds due to their versatility in creating so many different color combinations. The remaining RGBx options (RGBW, RGBW65 and RGBA) all are based on the same RGB format but we add a fourth diode providing additional lighting flexibility. If you scroll down on this product page you'll find detailed information about all of these color options.

Where can I find information on how to install this Low Profile ADD-ON LED Strip?

Click on the NAVIGATION tab titled, 'INSTALL'. You'll find detailed installation documentation for this product including how to prepare the mounting surface, what you need to know before mounting your LED strips, how to install the strip, how to cut the strip if needed, how to bench test and more. All of this information is in a downloadable format as well. It's quite detailed. We urge customers to take the time to read this information before making their purchase decision so they know exactly what's involved. No surprises.

Where can I find amperage data for this product?

Appropriately sizing the components in your lighting system is critical. Making sure your lighting system doesn't exceed the amperage ratings of each individual component is absolutely essential. While LED lights are more energy efficient than incandescent or fluorescent, Boogey Lights® LEDs are super-bright. As such, they will draw more amperage than any other LED product on the market by a factor of 2 or 3. Sometimes more. You'll notice when ordering this product we provide the # OF LEDS along with the length of the LED strip. We do so to make it easier to calculate the approximate amperage of each strip. DO NOT IGNORE THIS INFORMATION when designing your lighting system. You can click on the SPECS navigation tab of this product page and then read the section titled, 'AMPERAGE DATA'. It's quite detailed.

Why would I want to mount these inside of an Aluminum Channel?

Lots of reasons. One of the main reasons is the LED Strip is going to be mounted in a location that needs better protection from the elements (eg. running boards, service truck body side, etc). Another reason is in situations where the LED strip will be mounted in a location that is in full view all the time. Mounting the LED strip inside an aluminum channel + diffuser on top 'dresses up' the installation considerably. More professional looking. If you're going to be mounting our Low Profile LED strip inside the aluminum channel, be sure to select 'YES' on the question where asked in the product options. When we know the Low Profile LED strip will be mounted inside an Aluminum Channel with the Plastic Diffuser on top we only add one layer of clear heat shrink at the point where the power lead attaches to the LED strip. This is because the connection is less bulky (easier to seal inside the channel) plus the clear heat shrink allows the first diode to be seen. Be sure to scroll down and read the sections titled, 'Aluminum Channel + Plastic Diffuser Mounting' AND 'Mounted Inside an Aluminum Channel?' for important information about this option.

What is your Return Policy for this product?

This product is considered a custom ordered product which can only be returned for a STORE CREDIT (not a refund). You can find our RETURN POLICY here.

Where can I find the specifications for this product?

Click on the SPECS navigation tab on this product page. The GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION and LOW PROFILE LED STRIPS sections are the most relvant to this product. There are however other sections on this page that are important as well. Our product documentation - including specifications - are quite detailed. We urge customers to take the time to review this information before making their purchase decision.

Will the 3M VHB TAPE hold this LED Strip in place?

If you follow our installation instructions - including the proper preparation of the mounting surface with 3M Adhesion Primer - YES this LED Strip will absolutely stay stuck. But you have to read the installation instructions. Scroll down and read the section titled, '3M ADHESION PRIMER IS REQUIRED' for information on this. We also suggest downloading the installation documentation so you can see exactly what's involved in terms of installation before making your purchase decision.

Do you have photos of what the various LED colors look like when lit?

Absolutely! You can find LED color photos by scrolling down this product page and reviewing the section title, 'WHAT LED COLORS LOOK LIKE'. You'll also find this information on the SPECS navigation tab of this product page.

One word of caution. Truth is, it's not possible to accurately describe what a specific LED color looks like or take a picture of it. Why? Because there are a number of factors that impact how a particular LED color appears to the human eye. For starters, it's important to understand that Boogey Lights® are accent lights. With only a few exceptions, our lighting systems are designed to be hidden from view. When installed properly, you'll never see the LED diodes/lighting fixtures themselves. You'll only see the glow reflecting off the surrounding surfaces coming from the LEDs. That means the color of the surface the LEDs are mounted to coupled with the color of the surfaces surrounding the LEDs will directly impact how the human eye perceives the color being reflected. A white surface for example will tend to brighten the color whereas a darker surface will tend to darken the color. Real word scenario: If the LEDs are shining downward on black pavement, the light reflecting off that black pavement will appear different than if on concrete which is a lighter material So for example, the LED color green will tend to look more like a "light green" when shining off of lighter color surfaces and more like a "dark green" when shining off of darker color surfaces. Same LEDs, same diodes but the human eye perceives the color reflected differently based on the color of the surrounding reflective surfaces.

When in doubt, dry mount. If you are looking for a specific color or are very picky about the LED color look you're trying to achieve, we strongly suggest dry mounting the LED strip in the location you're looking to light up and then powering up that strip temporarily with a 12vdc power source. That way you can see how the glow looks for your specific lighting product before committing to a specific LED color. It's really the only way to know how the light will appear.

PRODUCT OPTIONS

Details on each of the options offered for this product are listed below.

Color Options

There are eight possible single color options (Red, Green, Blue, White, Orange, Amber, Pink, UV/Purple) and four multi-color options (RGB, RGBW, RGBW65, RGBA). On the RGBW led strip, in addition to RGB, you get one extra diode which is Warm White. That warm white diode has a Kelvin temperature of 2400 which means it has a yellowish look giving it a warmer, softer, candle like look. On the RGBW65 LED strip, in addition to RGB, you get one extra diode which is Bright White. That bright white diode has a Kelvin temperature of 6500 which means it has a bright white look. We have included a photo below showing the differences in the shades of white. On the RGBA led strip, in addition to RGB, you get one extra diode: Amber. Be sure to click on the SPECS navigation tab for detailed product specifications of these LED strips.

Boogey Lights® RGB, RGBW, RGBW65 , RGBA and RGBWW LEDs are common cathode LEDs. They share a common ground and will only work with positively switched LED controllers. Most third party led controllers are negatively switched controllers and will not work with Boogey Lights RGB, RGBW, RGBA or RGBWW LEDs. If you order any of the RGB LED strips listed here you will need a positively switched LED controller to operate.  That LED controller is not included. It has to be purchased separately.  While offer a wide selection of LED CONTROLLERs here, the most commonly used LED controller is our GEN 2 BLUETOOTH + RF COMBO CONTOLLER.

Length Options

These ADD-ON LED strips are available in lengths ranging from 1' to 16' (see drop down box). Important to note that these lengths aren't precise; they're close but not exact. For example, the 4' strip is really 47.25 inches. And the 6' strip is really 70.75". Why? Because the cut point is every 3 LEDs which are not spread evenly every 12 inches of the strip. So, we have to round down to the next available 3 LED group cut point. To see actual cut point lengths, click on the SPECs tab of this product page. Be aware too that each LED strip has the power lead soldered and sealed to it. That solder point assembly will add another ~ 1.5" in length to the strip. Be sure to take this into account when ordering.

Power Lead Options

This product is offered in your choice of Power Lead Lengths in increments of 5', 10', 15' and 20'. All power lead lengths use 22awg wire. The power lead wire is GREY. If you need to go longer than 20', we offer additional POWER LEAD WIRE to extend as needed.

PCB Color Options

PCB = Printed Circuit Board. The Single Color and RGB multi-color LED strips are offered in both White and Black PCB. The RGBW and RGBA product is offered only in Black PCB.

Coating Tint Option

Available on RGB with Black PCB. Select CLEAR (default) or SMOKE tint. Details on why this might be important to you are below.

Mounted Inside Aluminum Channel Option

If you are installing this LOW PROFILE LED strip inside our Aluminum Channel, select YES. If not, select NO (the default). To understand why this is important, scroll down and expand the text group about this topic. It's quite detailed.

Extra 3M Adhesion Primer Option

This product does not include 3M adhesion primer. That's because all of our lighting kits come with 3M adhesion primer sufficient to do the installation. In most cases there will be enough primer left over for an ADD-ON LED strip. Some folks however prefer to order extra; just in case.

LED STRIP LENGTH CONSIDERATIONS

The maximum length of a single LED strip is 16' (300 LEDs). They cannot be daisy chained together as you run a very real risk of fire and/or damaging the LED strips permanently. The laws of electricity won't allow these strips to be made longer with today's commercially available technology using 12vdc power and super bright 5050 led chips.

Multi-Color LEDs Require an LED Controller

The RGB, RGBW, RGBA and RGBWW multi-color Low Profile LED strips requires a positively switched LED controller to operate. They are designed to work with our GEN2 COMBO LED CONTROLLER . This LED controller is available in a number of configurations to support 300 to 3000 LEDs in both single zone and dual zone versions. See product page for details. Note that Boogey Lights® Low Profile RGB/RGBx LEDs are common cathode LEDs. They share a common ground and will only work with positively switched LED controllers. Most third party LED controllers are negatively switched controllers and will not work. Scroll down on this product page and read the section titled 'WILL THESE WORK WITH OTHER LED CONTROLLERS?' for more information on this topic.

WHITE LEDS: 6000K, 4000K or 2400k?

Color temperature is a method of describing the color characteristics - warmth or coolness - of a white light source. Commonly referred to as the Correlated Color Temperature (CCT), it's a gauge of how yellow or blue a white light source appears to the human eye. The spectrum of color temperature is assigned a numerical value, measured in degrees of Kelvin (K), on a scale of 1,000 to 10,000. Most Kelvin temperatures for modern lighting applications however fall somewhere on a scale of 2000K to 6500K. The color temperature of a light source lets us know what the look and feel of the light produced will be.

We offer three different Kelvin temperatures of WHITE as follows: COOL WHITE (6000K), SOFT WHITE (2400K) and NATURAL WHITE (4000K).

Cool White (aka Bright White) is the most popular and is by default what we ship the most. It's also the color of white that is created with RGB LEDs (mixing equal parts red + green + blue = cool white). It's excellent for functional lighting and is used the world over in offices, public places, warehouses and the like.

Soft White (aka Warm White or Candle White) is the second most popular since it provides a nice contrast to the Cool White. It's on the opposite end of the Kelvin scale with a 2400K temp. Soft White has a yellowish tint to it making it softer; easier on the eyes - not nearly as bright as Cool White though. It's great for creating ambiance but not functional lighting. You'll notice we offer an RGBW product that includes RGB + one diode of this soft white color which provides both Cool White and Soft White options (along with RGB of course). It's our most popular Multi-Color LED strip for this reason.

Lastly, we offer a Natural White (aka Neutral White) which has a Kelvin temp of 4000. This shade of white is middle of the road - half way between Soft White and Cool White. We offer it in a single color only. See below images to help demonstrate the differences.

What is RGB + WHITE (RGBW)?

On the RGBW led strip, in addition to RGB, you get one extra diode which is Warm White. That warm white diode has a Kelvin temperature of 2400 which means it has a yellowish look giving it a warmer, softer, candle like look (see photo below). That fourth diode on the RGBW led strip can be wired directly to our GEN2 LED Controller which supports RGBx LEDs. As an option, you could also wire that fourth diode to a completely separate on/off switch. Your choice. You could also use the Quick-Switch feature with this fourth diode too.

RGBW24 vs RGBW65

What is RGB + WHITE65 (RGBW65)?

On the RGBW65 led strip, in addition to RGB, you get one extra diode which is Bright White 6500K. That extra bright white diode has a Kelvin temperature of 6500 which means it's a very bright white. That fourth diode on the RGBW65 led strip can be wired directly to our GEN2 LED Controller which supports RGBx LEDs. As an option, you could also wire that fourth diode to a completely separate on/off switch. Your choice. You could also use the Quick-Switch feature with this fourth diode too. Some customer prefer the bright white over the warm white.

RGBW24 vs RGBW65

RGBWW NOTE

AUGUST 2023. Our RGBWW product is a close-out product with limited supply. The maximum length currently offered is 6' long. We have replaced it with RGBW which is offered in lengths up to 16'. Once we sell through the existing RGBWW components, we will no longer offer RGBWW. The reason is the vast majority of customers can use RGBW to achieve the lighting effect they're looking for with two different white color temperatures; one on each end of the Kelvin spectrum. RGBW too is easier to work with and less expensive than RGBWW.

RGBWW LOW PROFILE LED strips are designed primarily for awning light (or interior) applications.  We offer a ONE YEAR Warranty on this strip.  Do not install them for under-glow or end cap applications as they do not have the same PCB structure. They will fail prematurely when used in those applications and are not covered under warranty when installed this way.

CLEAR OR SMOKE TINTED COATING

We offer the option of SMOKE TINTED COATING for our Black PCB RGB LED strips instead of the standard clear coating on our Awning LED Light kits. The smoke tinted LED strip (see photo above) has a nicer daylight look when mounted in plain sight. Some customers prefer this look on their RVs as it blends better particularly with darker color paint schemes. This is a cosmetic option only for LED strips that are mounted where they can be seen in the daylight. It is important to note that this smoke tinted coating does reduce the brightness of the LEDs by about 40%. Boogey Lights LED strips are already incredibly bright (particularly when used on an awning light) so many folks don't mind the reduction in brightness but it is something to be aware of. If you want the absolute brightest Awning Light strip, go with the default clear coat selection. If you want the LED strip to blend in better with your RV's paint scheme during the daytime (and the installation to look a little more finished) and you're OK with a little less light, the tinted coating might be better.

Mounted Inside an Aluminum Channel?

For most orders this will be NO. If however you're going to be mounting this Low Profile LED strip inside our Aluminum Channel with the Plastic Diffuser on top, it's important to select YES. Why? When we know the Low Profile LED strip will be mounted inside an Aluminum Channel with the Plastic Diffuser on top we only add one layer of clear heat shrink at the point where the power lead attaches to the LED strip. This is because the connection is less bulky (easier to seal inside the channel) plus the clear heat shrink allows the first diode to be seen. We normally will use two layers of heat shrink but it makes the connection bulkier and the second layer uses black adhesive heat shrink which covers up the first diode. See photo below of what we are referring to. Read more about using these Low Profile LED strips inside Aluminum Channels here

Will Boogey Lights® Work with Other Brands?

The short answer is probably not. All Boogey Lights® RGB LED strips are COMMON CATHODE LEDS. They share a common ground and will only work with positively switched controllers. Most LED strips on the market today are COMMON ANODE because the controller technology used to power them is less expensive to manufacture. However they're not nearly as bright and are an overall inferior design when compared with COMMON CATHODE LEDs. For more information, click the button below.

Will Boogey Lights® Components Work with Other Brands?

NOTE ON EXTENDED USE

The LEDs used in this product are very bright; the brightest 12vdc LED lights available. They're designed to be used for accent lighting applications where they are typically powered on for a few hours (usually on a dimmed setting) and then powered off. While they can be used in functional lighting applications (e.g. bright white to temporarily illuminate a work area), the lights should NOT be left powered on for extended periods of time (e.g. 6+ hours). If the LEDs are left powered on for long periods of time - particularly on their brightest setting - the LEDs closest to the power source will have a burned look to them over time. This is because the amount of voltage being pulled through the LEDs closest to the power source will be higher than the voltage going through the LEDs further down the strip. The end result is that those LEDs closest to the power source will be hotter thus creating the burned look. This will occur mostly when displaying the color white on a full brightness setting but can also occur with other colors. For this reason, we do NOT suggest leaving these LED lights powered up for extended periods of time particularly on their brightest setting. Burned looking LEDs is NOT covered under warranty.

IMPORTANT WARRANTY NOTE

Boogey Lights® Low Profile Hi-Intensity Surface Mounted LED light strips are used in a number of Boogey Lights products for a variety of vehicle applications (including this product). Where and how these light strips are installed make all the difference in their durability and thus, our warranty. For this reason the duration of the Boogey Lights Low Profile Hi-Intensity LED Light Strips original owner warranty varies based on the vehicle application, use and installation types.

  • Recreational Applications: RVs, Motorcycles, Golf Carts: 3 years
  • Cars/Pickup Trucks/Off-Road: 1 year
  • Marine / Fresh Water: 3 years
  • Marine / Salt Water: 90 days
  • Food/Cargo Truck/Trailer, Other Light Duty Commercial Use / Installation done by Boogey Lights technicians in Florence, KY: 3 years
  • Food/Cargo Truck/Trailer, Other Light Duty Commercial Use / All other installation types: 1 year
  • Heavy Duty Truck and/or Trailer Commercial Use / Installation done by Boogey Lights technicians in Florence, KY: 1 year
  • Heavy Duty Truck and/or Trailer Commercial Use / All other installation types: 90 days

Note on Commercial Applications: These low-profile surface mounted LED strips are not built to withstand significant flexing or lateral movement of the surface the strip is mounted to. Some examples include on semi-truck trailers as well as tow trucks where there is significant movement, bending or flexing of the surface to which the strip is mounted.  Also, the strip can not mounted in such a way as they span multiple mounting surfaces. Mounting them this way will virtually guarantee the strip will fail sooner rather than later. These strips must be mounted to one single continuous smooth, clean, flat surface and in an area that is protected from corrosive chemicals. Commercial vehicles that frequently travel roads treated with corrosive chemicals often used for melting snow and ice can impact the durability of these LED strips if the strips are mounted in an area that is exposed to these chemicals. Hi-Intensity Strips that fail in these operating environments ARE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. For these types of operating environments we strongly recommend (and warranty) our HEAVY DUTY LED strips.
