Corvette C8 Mid-Engine LED Light Kit

Light up your C8 with a Boogey Lights® Mid-Engine LED light kit! Our super bright, low profile LED strips are built tough to withstand harsh operating environments. And with more LEDs per inch than any other LED light strip on the market, nothing is brighter! This kit has six super bright low profile LED lights that absolutely flood the mid-engine bay area with light (see photos). Available in your choice of single color, dual color and multi-color RGB and RGBx. Input voltage is 12vdc. LED light strips are constructed with 2 ounce copper PCB with 1.2mm of industrial strength 3M adhesive tape. 3M promoter included ensure these lights will stay stuck. Of course, your C8 needs to have the visible engine cover to really show off these lights.

READ THIS BEFORE ORDERING!

Our advanced lighting systems offer extensive customization and features - more than any other lighting system - so understanding the details is key to getting the results you want. Please take a moment to read this entire product page, starting with the FAQs below and continuing through all sections. Be sure to also check the INSTALL tab for downloadable installation documentation and wiring diagrams. These contain critical pre-purchase and setup information you need to review upfront.

Successful installation requires reading the written installation directions. While our How-To Videos offer helpful overviews, they do not replace the detailed documentation. Reading the instructions carefully is essential for proper fit, function, and long-term performance. Most support calls and warranty claims we receive stem from customers who don't read this information. Please take our advice and read the directions. We promise, you'll be happy with the results if you do.

FAQS | Frequently Asked Questions

While we encourage you to read all of the information presented on this product page (including the information on the navigation tabs), below are some of the most frequently asked questions we get about this product. In many cases, the answers to these FAQs will refer you to other sections of this product page for more details on the topic.

Will the double-sided 3M® tape really hold the lights permanently even in the engine bay?

ABSOLUTELY! This assumes you follow our installation instructions. With each LED light kit we include a catalyst made by 3M® that is an ADHESION PRIMER. It's often referred to as '3M Promoter' or '3M Primer'. When the surface is prepared properly with 3M® adhesion primer, your light strips will stay stuck - at least until such time you want to remove them. We've never had an LED strip fall off when the surface was prepared according to our instructions.

I've purchased other LED light strips from Amazon and EBay. Candidly, they're not very good and didn't last long. What makes Boogey Lights® different?

We're glad you asked! First, like most things in life, you get what you pay for. This is especially true in the LED lighting world. We make no apologies that Boogey Lights® are the most expensive LED lighting system you can buy. There's a reason for that. Second, everything about Boogey Lights® is different than any other LED lighting product you have used. There is no comparison. Not only are the LED lights built differently, so too is the LED Controller technology. For an in-depth, deep dive into these differences, check out this page: WHAT MAKES BOOGEY LIGHTS® DIFFERENT. But don't take our word for it, read through some of our first person customer reviews: BOOGEY LIGHTS® REVIEWS. These reviews will give you insight into what others are saying about our products.

How difficult are these lights to install?

It's impossible to answer that question. Why? Because everyone has different skill and experience levels. What's 'easy' to one person is 'difficult' to another. Highly subjective.

The one skill you do need is an understanding of 12vdc power. This includes understanding the importance of having a properly sized fuse at the power source, polarity, how to properly seal an electrical connection, using properly sized wire gauge for the load, measuring voltage and measuring the additional amperage draw you're adding. Beyond that, if you are willing to read and follow the directions (yes -- you must be willing to read the directions!), most people find the installation straight forward.

The good news is you don't have to guess at this. Our product installation documentation is very detailed - and you can download it directly from this product page right now. We do this on purpose so consumers have an opportunity to assess the level of difficulty BEFORE making their purchase decision. If you click on the INSTALL navigation tab on this product page you'll find downloadable links for each light kit offered on this product. The documents are PDFs so they can be viewed on any platform - desktop pc, mobile phone, tablet, etc. We also offer some HOW TO VIDEOS that customers find helpful. Remember too that our lighting systems are not vehicle specific when it comes to the installation process. Whether you're installing the light kit on a car, a pontoon boat, semi-truck, a pickup truck or an RV, the installation process is the same. The only difference is the vehicle format.

What's the difference between RGB, RGBW and RGBA?

This light kit is offered in four 'flavors' of multi-color LEDS: RGB, RGBW, RGBW65 and RGBA. RGB is the most basic. RGB stands for Red Green Blue. It's the mixing of these three primary colors that produces up to 16 million different color options. To mix and produce these colors however you need an LED controller which is why when you select any of the RGB or RGBx color options you'll also be prompted to make a LED Controller selection. On the RGBW led strip, in addition to RGB, you get one extra diode which is Warm White. That warm white diode has a Kelvin temperature of 2400 which means it has a yellowish look giving it a warmer, softer, candle like look. On the RGBA led strip, in addition to RGB, you get one extra diode which is AMBER which is a DOT Compliant Amber.

What are the power requirements?

Boogey Lights® are native 12vdc devices. They require 12vdc to power them. Be aware however that because our lights are super-bright, they will consume more amperage than a traditional 12vdc LED. The good news is that at least for this particular light kit, the amperage is relatively low. With 126 LEDs total, the maximum amperage draw is under 2 amps assuming 13.5v input at the brightest setting of white. Note that you can view amperage data for all of our lighting products by clicking on the SPECS navigation tab on this product page. You can also DOWNLOAD THE AMPERAGE DATA CHART here.

Product Highlights

This product has four color configuration options which will change based on the LED Color Configuration you choose. The available COLOR CONFIGURATIONS are: SINGLE COLOR, DUAL COLOR, RGB MULTI-COLOR and RGBx MULTI-COLOR. Selecting the COLOR CONFIGURATION will determine which options are presented for the remaining options.

The LEDs in this light kit use our high-performance super-bright 5050 tri-chip LEDs based on our low-profile surface mounted LED strips. The single color version of this kit can be wired directly into an existing ON/OFF switch if desired; or, add a wireless on/off remote. Same with the dual color option although you'll need 2 switches (one for each color). The RGB/Multi-Color versions requires an LED controller to operate; make your selection from the drop down box above. The RGB and RGBx LED Controllers offered are our popular COMBO RF + BLUETOOTH LED controllers. These COMBO controllers include both an RF wireless remote AND a Bluetooth APP so you can use your phone to control the lights too.

The kit includes the following six Low Profile LED strips for a total of 126 LEDs:

  • 3 - 12" (18 LEDs each) with a 5' power lead
  • 3 - 15.75" (24 LEDs each) with a 5' power lead

See product photo carousel or the INSTALL navigation on this product page to see the suggested mounting locations for these LED strips.

All power leads are permanently hard wired to one end of the LED strip with bare wires on the other ends (no connectors are used ever). Additional 18awg power lead cable is included to connect the LED strips to the controller which is mounted next to the battery. Fuse holder is included.

If purchasing any of the multi-color versions, you'll need to purchase an LED controller to operate the lights. You'll see the controller selection offered for these LED color options.

Optional single color and dual color switching options are offered as well if you're purchasing the Single Color or Dual-Color LEDs.

Color Configurations

There are four possible Color Configurations: SINGLE COLOR, DUAL COLOR, RGB MULTI-COLOR and RGBx MULTI-COLOR. Note that what you select for this option will determine which options are presented to you for the remaining options.

Single Color

Like the name suggests, a single color LED is just that: one single color. The color you purchase is the only color that LED strip will display - ever. So if for example you purchase a Single Color BLUE led strip, the only color that LED strip will produce is blue. If you know you only want blue all the time forever, single color is the way to go. This product is available in the following Single Color options: Red, Green, Blue, Bright White (6000k), Natural White (4000k), Soft White (2400k), Orange, Amber, Pink, Magenta (Hot Purple) and UV/Purple. With the exception of Magenta, all single color LEDs have three diodes each being the same color. With Magenta/Hot Purple there are two diodes.

UV/Purple Note: Purple LEDs are really ultra-violet LEDs. As such, they're not very bright and quite disappointing in terms of brightness. They're best used in lighting applications where the LEDs are mounted close to lots of chrome (e.g. motorcycle engines). If you want UV/Purple, be aware of this issue. This product cannot be returned for a refund if you're not happy with the brightness of the UV/Purple color . A good alternative to UV/Purple is MAGENTA (some call it a 'hot purple') which looks similar but has a brighter, pinkish tint. Magenta is available by mixing 100% RED + 100% BLUE which is what our single color Magenta is. You can also mix magenta using our RGB LEDs and an LED controller.

Dual Color

The Dual Color LED configuration uses our RGBA LED strip but instead of pairing that LED strip with an RGB LED controller (to mix up to 16 million different color combinations), we hard wire a combination of one, two or all three of the RGB diodes (red, green or blue) along with the AMBER diode to two on/off switches. One switch operates the primary color diode(s). The other switch operates the amber diode. There are a total of seven Dual Color configuration options: RED+AMBER, GREEN+AMBER, BLUE+AMBER, MAGENTA+AMBER, YELLOW+AMBER, CYAN+AMBER, WHITE+AMBER. With a Dual Color configuration you don't need an LED Controller. Instead, you only need two switches (and relays); one to control each color. The primary color is chosen from the available dual color drop down list. The secondary color is always amber.

RGB Multi-Color

RGB stands for Red, Green, Blue. The mixing of these three primary colors together will produce up to 16 million different color combinations. However to do so requires an LED controller. The controller is what operates the lights and mixes the colors. In addition to providing a wireless on/off capability, the LED controllers offered allow you to control your lights with your Bluetooth enabled smart phone and our free smart phone APP (Android and IOS) OR the included RF wireless remote. With the RF remote you can change between 7 colors (white, red, blue, green, light blue, lime green, pink) and functions of on/off, blending, strobing, breathing, flashing, fading and dimming. You can also use your Bluetooth enabled smart phone to create that custom look with over 16 million different color combinations plus three pre-sets along with color rotation programming with either 2 or 3 color sets. There is significantly more detail on the BLUETOOTH APP navigation tab on this product page.

RGBx Multi-Color

The RGBx LED color is the same as the RGB except that the lower case 'x' is used as a variable to indicate the addition of a 4th LED diode. The RGBx LED offers all of the same colors of RGB plus the addition of that 4th diode. For this product, the available RGBx LED Colors are: RGB + Amber (RGBA), RGB + White2500k (RGBW) and RGB + White6500K (RGBW65). Scroll down and expand the section titled 'WHITE LEDS' to see the difference in the White color temperatures offered.

White LEDS

Color temperature is a method of describing the color characteristics - warmth or coolness - of a white light source. Commonly referred to as the Correlated Color Temperature (CCT), it's a gauge of how yellow or blue a white light source appears to the human eye. The spectrum of color temperature is assigned a numerical value, measured in degrees of Kelvin (K), on a scale of 1,000 to 10,000. Most Kelvin temperatures for modern lighting applications however fall somewhere on a scale of 2000K to 6500K. The color temperature of a light source lets us know what the look and feel of the light produced will be.

We offer three different Kelvin temperatures of WHITE as follows: COOL WHITE (6000K), SOFT WHITE (2400K) and NATURAL WHITE (4000K).

Cool White (aka Bright White) is the most popular and is by default what we ship the most. It's also the color of white that is created with RGB LEDs (mixing equal parts red + green + blue = cool white). It's excellent for functional lighting and is used the world over in offices, public places, warehouses and the like.

Soft White (aka Warm White or Candle White) is the second most popular since it provides a nice contrast to the Cool White. It's on the opposite end of the Kelvin scale with a 2400K temp. Soft White has a yellowish tint to it making it softer; easier on the eyes - not nearly as bright as Cool White though. It's great for creating ambiance but not functional lighting. You'll notice we offer an RGBW product that includes RGB + one diode of this soft white color which provides both Cool White and Soft White options (along with RGB of course). It's our most popular Multi-Color LED strip for this reason.

Lastly, we offer a Natural White (aka Neutral White) which has a Kelvin temp of 4000. This shade of white is middle of the road - half way between Soft White and Cool White. We offer it in a single color only. See below images to help demonstrate the differences.

Other Items You May Need

No two installation scenarios are the same. Not everyone shares the same installation quality goals. Some folks are OK with twisting wires together, others want to solder them. Some folks are OK with running wires where they may be seen or unprotected to save money/time, others want a tidy, clean install without any wires showing. Some folks are OK with mounting their LED strips to whatever surface they can find, others want to take the time necessary to build out appropriate mounting surfaces to provide the best lighting effect on their vehicle. The point is it's not possible to provide all the materials necessary for all installation scenarios and quality goals. Our light kits provide the essential components needed for a high-quality, functioning lighting system. Installation of our light kit to your specific vehicle may however require additional items to make it look and fit the way you want. This is particularly the case with electrical wiring and mounting of LED strips. Before proceeding with your installation we suggest you consider THESE OTHER ITEMS.

Will Boogey Lights® Work with Other Brands?

The short answer is probably not. All Boogey Lights® RGB LED strips are COMMON CATHODE LEDS. They share a common ground and will only work with positively switched controllers. Most LED strips on the market today are COMMON ANODE because the controller technology used to power them is less expensive to manufacture. However they're not nearly as bright and are an overall inferior design when compared with COMMON CATHODE LEDs. For more information, click the button below.

Will Boogey Lights® Components Work with Other Brands?

Optional Switching and LED Controller options available to support your choice of LED color. See product details for options.
Install supplies including 3m Adhesion Primer, battery connector wire, fuse holder, butyl and power lead extension cable. These supplies change based on the Kit Configuration selected.

IMPORTANT. You must have an understanding of 12vdc power. An essential skill with installation of any Boogey Lights LED products is knowing how to correctly wire the product to a 12vdc circuit. This includes understanding the importance of having a properly sized fuse at the power source, polarity, how to properly seal an electrical connection, using properly sized wire gauge for the load, measuring voltage and measuring the additional amperage draw you're adding. If you are uncertain or unfamiliar with any of these concepts, we urge you to ask someone who has the knowledge to assist you. Electricity is unforgiving.

Assembly Required

This product is not 'Plug n Play'. Some assembly is required. It's not difficult but you have to make the connections yourself. Each LOW PROFILE LED strips includes a 5' power lead hard wired to one end of the LED strip. That power lead has bare wires (2, 4 or 5 conductors depending on which color version you order) on the other end. We also include additional power lead cable to make the connection between the LED strips and the controller. Scroll down and expand the INSTALLATION OVERVIEW section to see a diagram of the typical LED strip layout.

Installation Overview

The kit includes the following six Low Profile LED strips for a total of 126 LEDs:

  • 3 - 12" (18 LEDs each) with a 5' power lead
  • 3 - 15.75" (24 LEDs each) with a 5' power lead

You can download our Corvette C8 Mid-Engine LED Light Kit Installation Guide before purchasing. If you're adding relays (typically only required when using single color LEDs), you can download the Relay Wiring Diagrams as well.

Below is a diagram of where we installed the 6 LED strips on this C8. Nothing says you have to do the same as long as the strips are installed on a smooth flat surface as indicated previously. The idea is to mount the LED strips in a way that only the glow from the LEDs can be seen; not the LED strips themselves. The power leads from each LED strip will need to be routed to wherever you mount the LED controller or switch. We mounted our controller next to the battery as we always prefer to mount the LED controller as close to the power source as we can. That way we do not have to run long runs of 12vdc power. 12vdc power drops quickly over short distances. All of the power leads from the LEDs come together as one and are extended up to the battery using 18awg feeder cable where it connects to the controller.

Using 3M Adhesion Primer

To achieve the full adhesive strength of the 3M® tape affixed to the back of each strip 3M® Adhesion Promoter (aka Primer) must be applied to the mounting surface first. This is an important step to ensure a secure bond. The 3M® Adhesion Promoter creates a chemical bond between the tape and the mounting surface such that the LED strip will stay stuck (at least until you decide you want to remove it). Using any other solvent such as rubbing alcohol or acetone is not the same thing as using 3M® Adhesion Promoter. While these solvents will help clean the surface, they do not prime the surface. There is a difference. 3M® Adhesion Promoter is included with this kit although you may elect to purchase more if you'd like.

Bench Testing

Before shipping, we tested the lights and controller in your order to make sure they work.  We strongly suggest bench testing the lights and controller before installing.   Doing so will also help you understand the wiring setup.  For shorter LED strips (under 300 leds), you can typically use a common 9vdc battery to test your lights if you don't have a 12vdc bench testing power source available.  The lights of course won't be as bright but it is an easy way to test your lights before installing. For longer LED strips, you need 12vdc as 9vdc isn't enough. You can download this PDF that explains the Bench Testing process. We also have a How to Bench Test Video.
