Boogey Lights® super bright Heavy Duty LED light strips are ideal for working truck applications including commercial tow trucks and wreckers. This UNDER-GLOW LED light kit can be configured to fit any 2, 3 or 3 axle wrecker. It is designed to attach to the bottom of the wrecker and provide under-glow lighting. For flatbed/rollback and hook & chain wreckers, the under-glow lighting is full perimeter (all four sides of the truck). For all other truck types it's three sides: drivers, passengers and under the front bumper. There's even an option to add wheel well lighting. When installed properly, you'll only see the glow from the LED strips; you'll never see the actual LED strips themselves.

In all cases, the answers to these FAQs will refer you to other sections of this product page for more details on the topic.

How well will this Under-Glow LED light kit fit my wrecker?

Assuming the information you provide about the truck is accurate the light kit you'll receive will provide a more-or-less, full perimeter under-glow led lighting system for your truck. We build these kits based on the available information using the wheelbase, tire-sizes, over-all length, width and chassis information. They are not however perfect. It is impossible to provide a custom fit light kit without examining the bottom of the truck and getting measurements of the truck in advance. This is especially true for semi-trucks and wreckers as placement locations of fuel tanks, APUs, DEF tanks, DPF filters, exhaust pipes/stacks, tool boxes, wrecker bodies, etc all impact the available mounting locations. For this reason you will likely need to adjust some of the LED strips to fit your specific truck to give you the look you're after. Be aware too that the light kit might not provide 100% coverage in some areas of the truck to match your vision of how you want it to look. In those situations you may want to add additional Heavy Duty LED strips to fill in some locations where you want more light. That said, if you're looking for a true custom fit full-perimeter under-glow LED light kit for your specific truck, we strongly encourage you to order our BUILD YOUR OWN UNDER-GLOW LIGHT KIT instead. We build that kit to the measurements you provide.

How difficult is this Under-Glow Light Kit to install?

On a scale of 1-10, installing this full-perimeter under-glow LED light system on most trucks is a 6 to 8. The first challenge for many is getting under the truck far enough to secure the system to the chassis. Another issue for some is figuring out how best to mount the LED strips to the chassis. If you want your under-glow system to last, the LED strips have to be mounted to a smooth, straight, flat, rigid surface. You can't just stick them to the frame rails. In virtually every under-glow installation we do, we have to build out a suitable mounting surface for at least some of the LED strips. The good news is that our installation documentation is quite extensive. You can download our Wrecker Under-Glow LED Light Kit installation documents in advance of purchase so you can see what's involved. We also suggest downloading the LED Controller wiring diagram. You'll find all installation related documents, installation photos and wiring diagrams too on the INSTALL navigation tab of this product page.

Regardless of the lighting configuration, you must have an understanding of 12vdc power. An essential skill with installation of any Boogey Lights® LED products is knowing how to correctly wire the product to a 12vdc circuit. This includes understanding the importance of having a properly sized fuse at the power source, polarity, how to properly seal an electrical connection, using properly sized wire gauge for the load, measuring voltage and measuring the additional amperage draw you're adding. If you are uncertain or unfamiliar with any of these concepts, we urge you to ask someone who has the knowledge to assist you.

Will adding BOOGEY LIGHTS® to my truck void the manufacturer's warranty?

When installed properly according to our instructions, adding Boogey Lights® will not void any manufacturer warranty we are aware of. We've installed these light kits on all makes and models of brand new (or nearly new) commercial semi-trucks and tow trucks (RVs, cars, pickup trucks, boats and motorcycles too). The reason we're so confident in this claim is because we never connect Boogey Lights® to any of the truck's existing electrical systems. All electrical connections go directly to the truck's battery and has it's own fusing and power protection system. By wiring them this way, the Boogey Lights® LED lighting system is isolated. It's independent, making it impossible for the lighting system to interact with any of the truck's other electrical or on-board computer systems. If there is a problem with the Boogey Lights® system, the built-in fusing and/or power management systems will only shut down the Boogey Lights® system; nothing else. In situations where we are installing a tail-turn-brake light system, the interaction between the truck's tail/turn/brake light system is done only through a fused heavy duty relay. We never connect Boogey Lights® tail/turn/brake lights directly to the truck's LCM.

Will the double-sided 3M® tape really hold the lights to my truck permanently?

ABSOLUTELY! This assumes you follow our installation instructions. With each LED light kit we include a catalyst made by 3M® that is an ADHESION PRIMER. It's often referred to as '3M Promoter' or '3M Primer'. When the surface is prepared properly with 3M® adhesion primer, your light strips will stay stuck - at least until such time you want to remove them. We've never had an LED strip fall off when the surface was prepared according to our instructions. And in case you're wondering, our experience over the past 20 years is that removing the strip will not damage the painted surface or decals.

Can I easily remove my Boogey Lights® and transfer them to another truck?

The short answer is NO. Boogey Lights® are designed to be permanently mounted to your truck. While it's possible to remove the LED strips with some effort, the process of doing so will in most cases ruin the LED strips making them unusable (voids the warranty too). You can remove the LED CONTROLLER (and related battery connections) if you'd like for use elsewhere but removing the LED strips and related wiring isn't realistic in terms of reusing them on another truck. Installing Boogey Lights® on any vehicle should be viewed as a permanent installation only.

I've purchased other LED light strips from Amazon and EBay. Candidly, they're not very good and didn't last long on my truck. What makes Boogey Lights® different?

We're glad you asked! First, like most things in life, you get what you pay for. This is especially true in the LED lighting world. We make no apologies that Boogey Lights® are the most expensive LED lighting system you can buy. There's a reason for that. Second, everything about Boogey Lights® is different than any other LED lighting product you have used. There is no comparison. Are these lighting systems able to operate in all kinds of weather? Will they hold up?

Absolutely! Our lighting systems are designed to be used on all kinds of vehicles that operate in all kinds of weather. When installed properly, these systems will continue to function on all kinds of vehicles in all kinds of weather conditions for many years. Our Low Profile LED strips are IP65 rated and our Heavy Duty LED strips are IP67 rated. Our LED strips can be submerged in water for short periods of time. They're not however marine grade LEDs which are specifically designed to operate full time under-water.

All Boogey Lights® LED Controllers are water resistant and can be used outdoors. They are not however water proof. They should not be submerged in water or subjected to direct water contact for long periods of time. It's certainly OK for them to get wet though. For longevity and best performance, we recommend mounting the LED Controller in a location that will be protected from the elements and in particular, direct water contact. Note too the LED controller should be mounted in an area where there is sufficient air flow around the box to keep it from over-heating. This is particularly true if the number LEDs you have connected to the controller is within 25% of the controller's maximum capacity. The more LEDs you add, the hotter the LED controller will get particularly as it approaches maximum capacity.

Where can I get a Boogey Lights® LED light system installed on my truck?

You can check out our dealer locator here: https://www.boogeylights.com/dealer-locator/ . That said, there's nothing special about the installation process. Any 12vdc accessory shop for example or independent shop can install them. These aren't complicated systems requiring special training or special tools. Anyone who understands 12vdc power, has some basic tools (along with the knowledge to use them) and can read detailed instructions and view how to videos online can do it. It's pretty simple stuff. Of course some installations are more complicated than others. For example, installing an under-glow LED lighting system on a semi-truck is more easily done if the shop has a lift or pit that allows the technicians to easily get under the truck to mount the LED strips and run the cabling.

PRODUCT OPTIONS

This kit is offered in multi-color RGB, RGBA, Dual Color (your choice of 7 primary colors + amber) and single color (8 choices) configurations. With our GEN2 RGBx multi-color controller, you can set the color of your choice or pre-program a sequence of colors as well as single zone or dual zone strobbing and flashing capabilities. We offer complete customization capabilities too for those unique situations. Below is an overview of all product options offered.

WRECKER TYPE

Select the type of wrecker from the drop down box. This tells us the body style. If you're not sure of the type, we have diagrams of each type in the WRECKER TYPES text group in the product description below. Scroll down and take a look.

NUMBER OF AXLES

Select the number of axles (including the steer axle) for your wrecker. Only include the number of axles that are on the ground all the time. Do not count drop axles. Important this be correct.

NUMBER OF DROP AXLES

This option is offered for BOOM, INTEGRATED and OVERSIZED wrecker types. Select the number of DROP AXLES for your wrecker. This number is the number of axles with wheels that are NOT on the ground all the time. Only when the truck is loaded do these wheels touch the ground.

WHEELBASE (in inches)

Select the wheelbase (in inches) of the wrecker from the available range of options in the drop down box. These measurements are in inches. This is super important to be correct. Do not guess at the wheelbase measurement of your wrecker. We strongly suggest measuring it yourself before placing your order. Do not assume the number you were told is correct. Measure it. Scroll down to the next text group to see diagrams of how to take the wheelbase measurement for your wrecker. Did we mention it's important to get an accurate wheelbase measurement before placing your order?

LED COLOR OPTIONS

This option tells us what color format you want for your wrecker under-glow led light kit. There are two multi-color, seven dual-color and eight single color options. We have a detailed discussion about these LED color options further down on this product page. Be sure to read it. It's important. If you select any of the two multi-color options, you'll be presented with a couple of LED CONTROLLER selections (essential to operate RGBx LEDs). If you select any of the nine dual-color or eight single color options, you'll be presented with optional switching and control options.

CONTROLLER CONFIGURATION

This option is required for any RGB or RGBA color selection. In addition there are options for both single color and dual-color LED selections. There is a detailed discussion about these options further down on this product page. It's important to read it.

WHEEL WELL LIGHTS

If you want to light up the wheel wells of your wrecker, select yes from the drop down. The default is no.

MANUFACTURER NAME

Type in the manufacturer of the wrecker.

MODEL NAME

Type in the model name (and/or number) of the wrecker.

WHEELBASE MEASUREMENTS

The wheelbase measurement is the most important piece of data we need. If you get this wrong, your light kit will not fit properly. In our experience, lots of guys think they know the wheelbase of their truck but more often than not, the number they use has been passed down to them from the dealer, previous owner or some website post about the truck. Do not assume the wheelbase number you were given is accurate. We strongly urge customers to take an extra 10 minutes before ordering to take an accurate wheelbase measurement of their wrecker. The other problem of course is that not everyone knows what the wheelbase measurement is. To assist customers, we have created three wheelbase measurement diagrams based on the number of axles to show what that wheelbase measurement is. Scroll down.

WB = Wheelbase. This is the measurement we need.

CONTROLLER CONFIGURATION

This product offers seven different Controller Configuration options. Below is a review of each option.

No Swithing Mechanism | Provide Your Own

Select this option if you have your own switching or controller mechanism. If you are buying RGB/RGBx LEDs and select this option, make sure the RGB controller you are using is a POSITIVELY SWITCHED CONTROLLER. Our RGB LEDs are common cathode LEDs. They require a positively switched LED controller to operate. The vast majority of RGB controllers on the market today are negatively switched controllers and absolutely will not work with our RGB/RGBx LEDs. If you're purchasing Single Color or Dual-Color LEDs, we strongly suggest using a relay. These lights are bright and as such, pull more amperage than a typical LED light (see specs tab for details).

Single Color On/Off with Relay (hard wired)

This option is available for any single color selection. It's a simple on/off switch with a heavy duty relay.

Single Color On/Off with Relay (wireless)

This option is available for any single color selection. It's a simple on/off wireless switch with relay. Includes two keyfobs with a simple on and off button. See photo in product photo carousel.

Single Color Flasher (+ Strobing + Solid On) with Dual Zone control

This is a dual zone flasher controller that offers three modes for single color lights: solid on, 3 burst flash and strobing. Both the flashing and strobing modes have 5 different speed settings. There's also 5 brightness levels. It's controlled by a hand held RF wireless remote (see photo in the photo carousel above). Because it's a dual zone controller, each zone can be operated individually (e.g. zone 1 = red, zone 2 = amber) or they can be operated together. This flasher controller includes our 'Quick Switch' feature that allows you to wire in a toggle switch (e.g. on the dash) to turn the lights on (or off) in the last used settings. This Quick Switch feature is zone specific. This flasher will work with both single color and dual-color LEDs. Scroll down for details on this controller option.

Dual Color On/Off/On with relay (hard wired)

This option is available for any dual color selection. It's a simple three position on/off/on switch with relay. For example, UP = Amber. Down = Red. Middle postion = Off.

Dual Color Flasher (+ Strobing + Solid On) with Dual Zone control

This is a dual zone flasher controller that offers three modes for dual color lights: solid on, 3 burst flash and strobing. Both the flashing and strobing modes have 5 different speed settings. There's also 5 brightness levels. It's controlled by a hand held RF wireless remote (see photo in the photo carousel above). Because it's a dual zone controller, each zone can be operated individually (e.g. zone 1 = red, zone 2 = amber) or they can be operated together. This flasher controller includes our 'Quick Switch' feature that allows you to wire in a toggle switch (e.g. on the dash) to turn the lights on (or off) in the last used settings. This Quick Switch feature is zone specific. This flasher will work with both single color and dual-color LEDs. Scroll down for details on this controller option.

Multi-Color RGBx Single Zone and Dual Zone

For the two multi-color LED options, this kit offers both SINGLE ZONE and DUAL ZONE controller options. As the names suggest, a Single Zone controller has just one single lighting zone. All LEDs wired to the controller are on one zone. Whatever color or feature set you apply will be what you get on all leds. Pretty simple. With our Dual Zone controller, you can set up and operate two distinct lighting zones which can be operated and controlled individually or together. On a Dual Zone controller each lighting zone is capable of supporting up to 1500 LEDs for a total of 3000 LEDs. It will work with your Android® or iOS® Smart phone. It will also work with the included M7 Style RF wireless remote. Details on features are below.

GEN2 LED CONTROLLERS: RF + Bluetooth Combo Wireless Control

The LED Controllers offered in this kit are our GEN2 Single Zone and Dual Zone Heavy Duty Bluetooth COMBO LED Controllers. COMBO means they can be operated using either the included M7 RF wireless hand held remote OR your Bluetooth enable smart phone (and our free APP). Both will work. The RGB version is capable of displaying 16 million different color combinations. The GEN2 RGBx version can display even more color combinations depending on the type of LED strips connected to them. In addition, lighting effects on the Bluetooth controller are significantly more controllable in terms of speed and intensity. Each color and lighting effect is controlled by "sliders" or a color square on your smart phone screen so you can adjust the speed and intensity to get the lighting the way you want it.

Single Color Strobing / Flashing Dual Zone LED Controller

Designed primarily for commercial, working truck applications this heavy duty LED controller is ideal for situations where you need to strob or flash large numbers of single color LEDs. A typical scenario is with wide load truck haulers, wreckers and tow trucks. The unique dual zone capability allows the lights to be segregated into two distinct lighting zones. For example zone one might be red LEDs and zone two amber LEDs. Another option could be to assign the two zones into LEDs mounted on different parts of the truck (underglow = white, grill lighting = amber). The options are endless. Each zone can be operated independently or together. In addition to ON/OFF control, STROBING and FLASHING, there's a STEADY-ON mode that offers dimming making it ideal for recreational vehicle applications as well. All of these features are operated using the included wireless RF handheld remote.

Each zone will support up to 1500 tri-chip 5050 LEDs which means a total of 3000 tri-chip LEDs on a single LED controller. The operating modes include strobing, 3 burst flash and solid on. The speed can be adjusted and there's a brightness setting too. All of these features are operated using the included wireless RF hand held remote. This controller includes our Quick-Switch feature which when paired with a simple on/off switch will allow the controller to be turned on/off via a hard wired switch (mounted on the dash for example) as well.

LED COLOR OPTIONS

This light kit is offered in eight single color options, seven dual-color options and in two multi-color configurations. Detail are as follows:

SINGLE COLOR

Each single color LED chip has 3 diodes inside which means single color LEDs are the brightest available since all three diodes are the same color. The AMBER Single Color LED chip is DOT compliant. The available single color LEDs are: red, green, blue, amber, orange, white, pink and magenta (hot purple).

DUAL COLOR

The Dual Color LED configuration uses our RGBA LED strip where the primary color can be one of 7 different colors and the secondary color is always amber. There are a total of seven Dual Color configuration options: RED+AMBER, GREEN+AMBER, BLUE+AMBER, MAGENTA+AMBER, YELLOW+AMBER, CYAN+AMBER, WHITE+AMBER. With a Dual Color configuration you don't need an LED Controller. Instead, you only need a 3 position switch (or two switches) - and relays; one to control each color. The primary color is chosen from the available LED dual color drop down list. The secondary color is always amber. NOTE: We also offer a RED + BLUE Dual Color option.

MULTI-COLOR RGB or RGBA

The multi-color RGB LED version provides over 16 million color combinations using the Boogey Lights LED Controller. The RGBA version offers the same color combinations as RGB except there is an additional diode in the chip which is AMBER. QUICK-SWITCH FEATURE

The Quick Switch feature comes standard on our HEAVY DUTY SINGLE ZONE and HD DUAL ZONE LED Controllers (all RGBx controllers).  Whatever color LED you have connected to the WHITE output wire on the controller is the color that will display when the Quick Switch is triggered with 12vdc +.  The most common use for this configuration is with commercial vehicles who want to be able to instantly turn off whatever color they're running and turn on a DOT compliant AMBER which is on our RGBA LED strips. For these installations, the yellow trigger wire is connected to a toggle switch or other wireless switch that activates the AMBER leds.   When the Quick Switch trigger wire is not energized, the LED controller operates the RGBx diodes normally.

SINGLE ZONE OR DUAL ZONE

As the name suggests, a SINGLE ZONE controller has one lighting zone. All LEDs wired to that zone display the same color and features. For DUAL ZONE, there are two distinct light zones. All LEDs wired to Zone 1 operate the same. All LEDs wired to Zone 2 operate the same. Each zone can be used independently or together.

WHAT IS RGB + AMBER (RGBA)?

RGBA is a new LED strip format Boogey Lights® developed. It is available in both our Low Profile and Heavy Duty LED strip formats. The RGBA led strip includes our core RGB tri-chip technology using a 5050 RGB LED with the addition of a fourth 2835 diode that is AMBER. Designed primarily for motor vehicle applications, that fourth AMBER diode can be wired to a separate switch on the dash (or tied into a relay to work with existing running lights) that allows you to quickly and easily turn on just the AMBER leds. Then, for those who want the flexibility to be able to display up to 16 million color combinations using the RGB tri-chip, they can do that too. RGB + A provides the best of both worlds. Single color amber plus RGB tri-chip multi-color. The product photo carousel of this product page includes a close-up view of the LED strip design and wiring diagram. Note that due to the addition of that fourth diode, the RGBA strips are a little wider than our standard tri-chip RGB and single color LED strips.  Also, the power lead wires use five conductor vs four. WHAT IS DUAL COLOR?

The Dual Color LED configuration uses our RGBA LED strip but instead of pairing that LED strip with an RGB LED controller (to mix up to 16 million different color combinations), we hard wire a combination of one, two or all three of the RGB diodes (red, green or blue) along with the AMBER diode to two on/off switches. One switch operates the primary color diode(s). The other switch operates the amber diode. There are a total of eight Dual Color configuration options: RED+AMBER, RED+BLUE (see note below), GREEN+AMBER, BLUE+AMBER, MAGENTA+AMBER, YELLOW+AMBER, CYAN+AMBER, WHITE+AMBER. With a Dual Color configuration you don't need an LED Controller. Instead, you only need two switches (and relays); one to control each color. The primary color is chosen from the available dual color drop down list. The secondary color is always amber (unless RED + BLUE). Note: The Dual Color options includes one ON-OFF-ON 3 way toggle switch and two, 30 amp relays.

RED + BLUE Dual Color. We offer a RED + BLUE Dual Color option. This lighting configuration uses our standard RGB LED strips where only the RED and the BLUE diodes are wired. It's a common choice for wreckers operating in states where its legal to display red and blue. You'll notice too we offer our DUAL COLOR FLASHER dual zone controller which can be used to flash/strobe the red and blue lights if you want. With this configuration, the red diodes are wired to zone one and the blue diodes to zone two. Doing so gives you the ability to strobe/flash either zone or both together.

SINGLE COLOR CONFIGURATION

Single color LEDs do not require an LED controller to operate. They do however require a switch of some kind somewhere in the circuit to turn them off/on. We offer a number of options in this kit for switching single color LEDs. There are a number of ways to do this but regardless of how you decide to switch your single color LEDs, you need to be mindful of the amperage you're adding to your system. If you're considering adding these LEDs to an existing circuit (e.g. with your marker or running lights) we strongly suggest using a relay vs simply tapping into the existing circuit. This is especially important on newer trucks where the LCM will likely throw an error when you add more LEDs to the system due to the increased amperage draw. Note: Any auto parts store (or big box store) will offer a wide variety of 12vdc switches and relays. And, many trucks already have unused switches available on the dash. We offer the above as a convenience only.

WHAT'S INCLUDED + OPTIONS
This kit includes the number and quantity of HEAVY DUTY LED light strips needed to provide both sides and front bumper UNDER-GLOW lighting to match the WHEELBASE, NUMBER OF AXLES and BODY STYLE format you select in the product configuration. If you ordered the optional wheel well lights, we include those heavy duty led strips as well to match the number of wheel wells specified. Note: For flatbed/rollback and hook/chain wreckers, the under-glow lighting is full perimeter (all four sides of the truck). For all other truck types it's three sides: drivers, passengers and under the front bumper.
If you selected a multi-color system, the kit will include an LED Controller. Either Single Zone Heavy Duty or Dual Zone Heavy Duty. Both include a wireless RF hand held remote control and Bluetooth integration. Also included is our eXtended Long Range Antenna. See product page for details.

No two installation scenarios are the same. Not everyone shares the same installation quality goals. Some folks are OK with twisting wires together, others want to solder them. Some folks are OK with running wires where they may be seen or unprotected to save money/time, others want a tidy, clean install without any wires showing. Some folks are OK with mounting their LED strips to whatever surface they can find, others want to take the time necessary to build out appropriate mounting surfaces to provide the best lighting effect on their vehicle. The point is it's not possible to provide all the materials necessary for all installation scenarios and quality goals. Our light kits provide the essential components needed for a high-quality, functioning lighting system. Installation of our light kit to your specific vehicle may however require additional items to make it look and fit the way you want. This is particularly the case with electrical wiring and mounting of LED strips. Before proceeding with your installation we suggest you consider THESE OTHER ITEMS.

Each kit includes 3M®primer. It's important the surface be prepared properly to make sure the LED strips stay stuck.

Installation Information

IMPORTANT. You must have an understanding of 12vdc power. An essential skill with installation of any Boogey Lights LED products is knowing how to correctly wire the product to a 12vdc circuit. This includes understanding the importance of having a properly sized fuse at the power source, polarity, how to properly seal an electrical connection, using properly sized wire gauge for the load, measuring voltage and measuring the additional amperage draw you're adding. If you are uncertain or unfamiliar with any of these concepts, we urge you to ask someone who has the knowledge to assist you. Electricity is unforgiving.
